Interview with illustrator Jim Field
Welcome to the Rhymes For Little Minds InstaSquare Interview!
First up, Jim Field. We all know him as the genius illustrator behind Oi Frog!, but he has just released his debut book Monsieur Roscoe On Holiday.
Born in Farnborough, Jim studied animation at Hull School of Art and Design and worked in the animation industry before moving into illustration. He got his big break when he sent a self-promotional mail-out of five stinky fish (fortunately illustrated, not real fish) to Macmillan.
Jim’s first picture book, ‘Cats Ahoy’ written by Peter Bently won the Booktrust Roald Dahl Funny Prize in 2011. Since then he has won multiple awards including Oscar’s Book Prize, Sainsbury’s Children’s Book Awards and the Lollies Book Award.
Jim’s debut author-illustrator picture book Monsieur Roscoe On Holiday, is a bilingual book that introduces first French words. In the book we follow Monsieur Roscoe as he travels to the train station, sets up his tent, skis down a mountain, steers a boat and goes swimming (amongst other things). Each double-page spread focuses on one of the scenarios above and explores a whole range of French vocab in the process.
Take a look at my previous review to find out more. It’s brilliant.
